April 12, 2023 - Three scenarios were presented by the Finance Director as requested by Board members. After discussion, the concensus was to prepare a budget resolution that illustrates Scenario B which includes a $0.51 real estate tax rate and uses County Capital Fund monies to fund the Transportation Project Fund transfer, six school buses, and a portion of school facilities preventive maintenance needs. This scenario also fully funds the General Fund transfer to the School Operating Fund which equates to $103,015,936.
April 5, 2023 - The County Administrator provided an updated timeline for the remainder of the FY2024 budget process. Click here to view presentation. FY2024 budget scenarios were presented that included $0.51, $0.53, and $0.55 real estate tax rates. Supervisor McCann-Slaughter introduced another scenario with the $0.51 revenue neutral tax rate that utilizes an alternative funding arrangement that fully funds the school operating request as well as funding school buses and school facilities preventive maintenance needs with County Capital Fund monies.
March 8, 2023 - The Superintendent of Schools presented the Schools Board's proposed FY2024 budget. The total proposed budget equals $228.1 million, an increase of $10.6 million over FY2023. The requested transfer from the General Fund to the School Operating Fund for FY2024 is $104.6 million, an increase of $9.2 million over FY2023. Click here to view the presentation. March 1, 2023 - The County Administrator provided a timeline for the remainder of the FY2024 budget process to include outstanding items and short-term and long-term initiatives. Click here to view presentation. Three budget scenarios were then presented by the Finance Director that included a $0.55, $0.57, and $0.51 real estate tax rate. A concensus could not be reached as to what real estate tax rate to include in the budget public hearing advertisement, therefore, the advertised real estate tax rate defaults to the current rate of $0.61. The March 8 budget work session is the last scheduled meeting before the advertisement date of March 14, 2023.
February 22, 2023 - The Finance Director shared two proposed FY2024 budget scenarios - one with a 55-cent real estate tax rate and one with a 57-cent real estate tax rate. Fire & Rescue topics such as new positions, apparatus, new fire station, grants, and revenue recovery were discussed.
February 15, 2023 - The County Administrator shared capital and new position strategies as well as several tax rate scenarios to fund FY2024 requests.
