The Frederick County Fire Marshal's Office would like to ensure the safety of citizens and the protection of property through education and the enforcement of the Frederick County Fire Prevention Code. The mission of the Life Safety Division is to prevent or limit the occurrence of fire incidents, to make sure buildings are safe to occupy, to ensure proper egress is always available, to make certain fire protection systems are in place and maintained,.
One of the responsibilities of the Fire Marshal's Office is to ensure code compliance by reveiwing plans of proposed new construction or modifications to existing buildings. The Fire Marshal's Office also conducts/witnesses inspections for all fire protection systems within a facitlity including sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, alternative suppression systems, kitchen hood systems and building finals to make sure that the proper fire protections measures are installed.
The Annual Fire and Life Safety Inspection is intended to identify and correct hazards in public assembly buildings, schools, restaurants, theatres, hotels, and other commercial buildings. These inspections help to ensure fire prevention and also educates the business/building owners on how to create and maintain a fire safe business.
The Frederick County Fire Prevention Code requires an operational permit be issued for the use of explosives/blasting, storage of explosives/blasting agents, commercial open burning, fireworks aerial displays, fireworks sales, mobile food preparation vehicles and tents over 900 sqare feet or if more than 50 people will occupy the tent.
