Snowden Bridge Boulevard Opens to the Public
On Monday, September 18, barriers were taken down and Snowden Bridge Boulevard opened to the public following its’ acceptance into the Virginia Department of Transportation system.
“This is an important phase of Snowden Bridge Boulevard which, in our transportation plan, is a major collector roadway,” according to Charles DeHaven, Chairman of the Frederick County Board of Supervisors. “Advancement of the plan allows us to move closer to our goal of a progressive, well thought out transportation system for today and the future.”
The total cost of this project to date is $7,815,271.96. The funds were awarded in July 2014 and site work commenced in March of 2016. The project was funded through a public private partnership with the Graystone Corporation, a division of Shockey. The County procured half of the necessary funds from VDOT Revenue Sharing funds and the other half came from Graystone Corporation.
Kris Tierney, County Administrator, credits County staff for their role in the successful project. “Our team did an outstanding job coordinating the many moving parts in a project of this magnitude.” Both the Frederick County Public Works and Planning and Developments departments were involved in the planning and delivery of the project. The County managed the construction aspect and the General Contractor was Perry Engineering Company, Inc.
