WINCHESTER, VA - Members of the Frederick County Building Inspections Department have completed their onsite evaluation of the incident at the Frederick County Fair on Monday evening. All amusement rides at the fair were inspected by Certified Frederick County Building Inspectors prior to the fair opening. Employees of the owner of the rides, Inners Shows, also inspected the rides prior to operation on Monday. At that time there were no indications of malfunctions and the cause of the incident remains under investigation.
A cease and desist letter has been issued to the owner regarding the piece of equipment in question and the owner is in compliance with that letter. Frederick County will remain in communication with the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development in accordance with The Virginia Amusement Device Regulations. The Frederick County Building Inspections investigation is ongoing as to possible violations of those regulations.
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office have determined that at the present time there does not exist any evidence of criminal wrongdoing.
