Fire Chief Dennis Linaburg to Retire January 1, 2021
WINCHESTER, VA, July 15, 2020: Fire and Rescue Chief Linaburg has announced his intent to retire from his position, with the County on January 1, 2021. Chief Linaburg has served the County for 30 years and was appointed Chief in 2011.
Chief Linaburg said in a letter to County Administrator Kris Tierney, “After careful consideration, I have decided that this is the right time for both my family and me to make this change in our lives. Words alone cannot express how much of an honor it has been to serve the Department and the community that I grew up in for these past 30 years.”
Chairman of the Board, Charles DeHaven acknowledged Chief Linaburg’s impending retirement: “Chief Linaburg has served the residents of Frederick County with honor and distinction for his entire career with us. He rose through the ranks from one of our first paid staff members hired in 1990 to System Chief. We appreciate the sacrifices he has made over the years and wish him nothing but the best as he retires. He leaves a department well suited to meet future challenges.”
During Chief Linaburg’s time with the department, he has seen an all-volunteer system evolve into a combination fire and rescue system to meet the demands of our everchanging community. The Department is now an all hazards system, providing technical rescue, fire suppression, and hazardous material response. The Department has dedicated Training Officers to ensure our responders have the best possible, and the Fire Marshal’s Office ensures that buildings are built and maintained through fire inspections, fire prevention, investigation, and public education.
County Administrator Kris Tierney said of Chief Linaburg, “I believe Denny has done a commendable job of managing this rapidly growing, vitally important function of our County Government under often challenging circumstances. Denny rose through the ranks of the department and during his tenure the department, working closely with our volunteer community, has accomplished a great deal.”
In closing, Chief Linaburg said, “I have been fortunate to have served in one of the noblest of professions and I have nothing but respect and pride in the brothers and sisters I have served with. It has been my distinct privilege to serve as the Fire and Rescue Chief of the Frederick County Fire and Rescue Department. It has been both my honor and pleasure to have served Frederick County.”
County Administrator Tierney will work with Chief Linaburg, the Board of Supervisors, and Fire and Rescue Department leadership on a transition plan for the department.
